Synteract Makes Inc. Magazine’s Fifth Annual Exclusive List of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies, the Inc. 5000

Well-regarded contract research organization makes list for the first time with three years growth at 54 percent

SAN DIEGO – Sept. 6, 2011 – Synteract, Inc., a full-service, global contract research organization (CRO) dedicated to meeting the clinical research needs of biotechnology, medical device, and pharmaceutical companies, today announced it has been listed on Inc. magazine’s fifth annual Inc. 500|5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. The list represents a comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy—America’s independent entrepreneurs.

Ellen Morgan, co-founder and chairman of the board of Synteract, said, “We are pleased to be recognized on this prestigious list and are confident that our dedicated staff, our service excellence and our clinical expertise have helped our company to grow despite the economic downturn of the past few years.”

In a stagnant economic environment, Synteract’s revenue growth rate over the past 3 years has been an impressive 54 percent. Cumulatively, the companies on this year’s list report having created 350,000 jobs in the past three years, and aggregate revenue among the honorees reached $366 billion, up 14 percent from last year.

CEO of Synteract Wendel Barr said, “Our continued investment in our people, systems, and capabilities positions us well for the future. Our goal is to be the partner of choice to the biotech and small pharmaceutical market segment. Inclusion in this ranking indicates we are well on our way.”

Synteract joins Spirit Airlines, television maker Vizio, Honest Tea, Dunkin Donuts and Metrokane among other prominent brands featured on this year’s list. Online retailer ideeli tops this year’s list. "Now, more than ever, we depend on Inc. 500/5000 companies to spur innovation, provide jobs, and drive the economy forward. Growth companies, not large corporations, are where the action is,” says Inc. magazine Editor Jane Berentson.

Synteract, which prides itself on being a “CRO with Character” focusing on responsiveness and integrity, began as a 2-person company in 1995, and has grown to become an international, multi-million dollar company, now with close to 400 staff and offices in California, North Carolina and Prague, Czech Republic.

The 2011 Inc. 500/5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2007 to 2010. Companies had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2010. The minimum revenue required for 2007 is $100,000; the minimum for 2010 is $2 million. Companies on the Inc. 500/5000 are featured in Inc.’s September issue at
